Headstart - Theater Program
"There is perhaps no more powerful tool than theatre to reach children. It taps into the instinct with which they are born, the instinct to explore by pretending.” (DaretoDream Theatre).
It is a known fact that going to the theatre can improve literary and social skills in addition to helping children learn to articulate their ideas and feelings. In support of this idea, the Kiwanis Club of Titusville sponsors local Headstart kids to be able to attend the children’s theatre staged by the Rising Stars Theatre, a young performers group of the Titusville Playhouse, Inc. In the 3 to 5 year old age group, the kids come from Headstart sites at The Gibson Center and The Childrens Center and local schools in North Brevard.
Many of the children that are a part of this program would not normally have the opportunity to see live theatre. After one show a parent chaperone shared the fact that he himself had never before seen a live production. The kids love the live theater and the Kiwanis Club of Titusville feels it’s a wonderful way to show children the many forms that reading can take. It could inspire a future performer or writer!
